"Day After Day (Just Like the Crows)"

“I often paint factories with smoke pouring from the top... They stand tall and proud in the landscape and are a symbol of the industry that keeps these people alive.” – Mackenzie Thorpe In this limited edition print, a line of workers moves through a snowy, colorless landscape toward a distant factory. Stars dot the early morning sky, suggesting the start of another long workday. While the setting feels stark and cold, it’s filled with quiet resilience. Raised in 1950s Middlesbrough, Thorpe knew firsthand the hardship and strength of working-class life. His own journey—from shipyard laborer to acclaimed artist—mirrors the perseverance shown in this piece. The looser, more expressive style captures the emotional weight of the workers’ daily struggle, as well as the dignity and purpose they carry with them.
