Vintage David Andersen Jewelry | Historic Lion Motif Brooch Norway

LION MOTIF DAVID ANDERSEN BROOCH David Andersen's early lion motif brooch represents a pivotal moment in Norwegian jewelry design—a precursor to the celebrated Viking Saga collection that would define the house's aesthetic decades later. Crafted in 830 silver, the standard for Scandinavian metalwork before 1920, this brooch bears an authentic early maker's mark documented between 1888 and 1925, with a C-clasp mechanism consistent with that era. The lion imagery reflects a distinctly Norwegian sensibility, drawing on Nordic mythology and national identity that characterized the Arts and Crafts movement across Scandinavia. This particular piece bridges two design periods: the restrained, naturalistic approach of early David Andersen work and the more stylized Viking-inspired forms that emerged in the mid-twentieth century. Its rarity lies not only in age but in its position within the designer's evolution—a tangible record of how Norwegian artisans reinterpreted historical symbolism for contemporary adornment. For collectors of Scandinavian metalwork, this brooch offers both historical significance and the refined craftsmanship that established David Andersen as a cornerstone of Nordic design heritage.
