Daniel Carter & Reuben Radding – Luminescence

Luminescence by Daniel Carter & Reuben Radding   [AUM025] - CD in 4-panel digipak Daniel Carter : alto saxophone Reuben Radding : bass This exquisite entry to eternity manifests a singular quietude – maintained full through-out; said state broken only (perhaps) by the beckoning home of sea creatures at its conclusion. Multi-instrumentalist tone master Daniel Carter is featured here in rare exclusivity on alto saxophone and, for the first time ever, on our West Coast. "This is a stunning release that captures the intuitive interaction and beauty of two magnificent improvisers." –Jay Collins, Signal To Noise "Deep, shadowy night music, or the music of dawn, when the light that enters the eye mingles with the light of the mind." –Jeff Stockton, All About Jazz "One of the most brilliantly understated documents ever to emerge from the bubbling cauldron of the New York free improv scene." –Nils Jacobson, All About Jazz / Publisher's Pick "The first six tracks are so soft spoken they could almost be whispered, like eloquent descriptions of moonlight. It recalls some of the work Masaru Sato provided for the films of Akira Kurosawa, as well as the more subdued nocturnal moments of jazz artists like Mingus, Miles Davis, and Pharoah Sanders. Though this is only two instruments, it always feels full and alive with a marvelous textural contrast. Active and inventive, slip sliding in rhythmic and melodic twists and turns; all so invitingly listenable. One of the finest jazz releases of the year." –George Parsons, Dream Magazine Daniel Carter is an underground legend and has been an integral part of the NYC music scene for over four decades and running. “Underground” largely because he has sublimated his profound gifts into the pro-creative collective. He was a founding member of the peerless soul/improv groups Other Dimensions In Music and TEST. Over the past four+ decades, Daniel Carter has performed and/or recorded with (among countless others): Sun Ra, William Parker (from the very early 70's into the present), Cecil Taylor, Yo La Tengo, Matthew Shipp, Medeski, Martin, & Wood, Sam Rivers, No Neck Blues Band, Sunny Murray, Spring Heel Jack, Sonic Youth. This is Mr. Carter’s first album under his own name as „leader.“ Of course, this is a fully collaborative duo. Reuben Radding – DC punk rocker as a youth – made his way to New York in ‘88 to pursue improvised music. Quickly immersing himself in the “Downtown” music community, he performed in groups led by John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Elliott Sharp, Roy Campbell, and Dave Douglas. Toured Europe with Ribot, and as the leader of Myth Science – a Sun Ra repertory band which also released the CD Love In Outer Space. Relocating to Seattle in ‘97, he performed with Eyvind Kang, Wally Shoup, Wayne Horvitz, Michael Bisio, Jessica Lurie, and many others. Receiving a grant from Artist Trust in 2001 in order to bring Daniel Carter to the West coast for the first time (!), the results were/are Luminescence. Radding moved back to NYC in the summer 2002, where he has continued the process of making himself indispensable.  1. You And I Are Disappearing - 05:05 2. Ancestral Voyage-Mystery Succeed - 11:09 3.
