Dangerous Currents

Hugh Kavanagh was a good man. Ask anyone in Himmel. They’ll all say the same thing—which is the first problem. When a space heater kills a local landlord and parish stalwart in his own bathroom, the police close the file before the funeral flowers wilt. Accidents happen. Winter is dangerous. Everyone moves on. Everyone except six-year-old Dominic, who keeps waking up crying about the monster he saw in the alley behind Hugh’s house the night before he died. Leah Nash walks the alley to prove to Dominic that monsters aren’t real. Instead, she finds a silver charm—and the first crack in a story that turns out to be carefully, deliberately wrong. Because the Hugh Kavanagh memorialized at his funeral isn’t the Hugh Kavanagh his tenants knew, or his employees, or the people whose secrets he collected like debts. The deeper Leah investigates, the more suspects she finds. And the closer she gets to the truth, the clearer it becomes that exposing it could destroy the grieving family she’s come to care about. Some murders are committed out of cruelty. This one was committed out of love. Which makes it the hardest kind to expose. Perfect for fans of Louise Penny and Craig Johnson, a Himmel, Wisconsin mystery about the secrets that hold a community together—and what happens when someone decides to pull them apart. ____________________ Praise for Susan Hunter and the Leah Nash mystery series: "...flawless and satisfying." —Cynthia Hamilton, author of the Madeline Dawkins Mysteries “...will leave readers breathless and ready for more.” —LynDee Walker, Amazon Charts bestselling author of Fear No Truth [Leah]...encourages the reader to follow her wherever she goes, and I intend to do just that." —Laura Snider, author of Unsympathetic Victims "Leah Nash is a feisty, determined heroine who fearlessly chases truth, justice, and the next great story." —Shannon Baker, author of the Kate Fox mystery series "Leah is smart and motivated with a healthy sense of humor.
