This Dangerfield two-piece set gives you a pair of those blades, long enough to reach, fine enough to feel, and ground from quality steel so they hold their shape after years of work. 2 mini-knivesmatched pair 301 steelhigh-yield blade Long bladereach and feedback Gripped handleextended for control What it is A bypass blade that works around the lock, not through the keyway A mini-knife is not a pick and it does not feel pin stacks. It is a slim, flexible blade with a gripped handle, used to slip into the gaps a lock leaves behind: under a latch, behind a dial, into a mechanism that gives up its movement once you can reach it. Pickers and locksmiths keep one within arm's reach because so many openings come down to reach and feel rather than picking a pin tumbler open. The blade is made from 301 high-yield steel and runs long, which is the whole point. Length gives you reach into the mechanism, and the spring in good steel sends real feedback back up to your fingers so you can tell what the tool is touching. How you use it Find the gap, slide the blade, work it by feel Hold the gripped handle, guide the blade into the space the lock leaves open, and apply slow, deliberate pressure. The tool rewards a light touch: you are reading what the blade meets, not forcing it. As the blade engages, small movements and steady patience get you further than muscle. Two blades in the set means you keep one in reserve, run them at slightly different angles, or use both hands when a job calls for it. Start on hardware you know well, learn how the blade feels in your fingers, and build from there. Use bypass tools only on locks you own or have written permission to open, and check the laws where you live. This is a hobby, sport, and trade skill, so treat it like one. Questions Quick answers from the LockPickWorld bench What is a mini-knife used for? It is a slim, flexible bypass blade. You slip it into the gaps a lock leaves open to work the mechanism by feel, rather than picking a keyway. Locksmiths keep one on hand for exactly this kind of reach-and-feel job. How many are in the set? Two mini-knives, a matched pair. Keep one in reserve, set the second to a fresh angle, or bring both hands to a stubborn job. Is it good if I am still learning? Yes. Begin on hardware you own with a backup way in, move slowly, and read the feedback the blade sends back. The technique is learnable with time on the right hardware. What should I pair it with? Latch opening shims for spring latches, and a pick set such as the Serenity if you also want to learn pin tumbler picking. Together they cover most of what a bypass-minded kit needs. Add a locksmith's classic to your kit Two long 301-steel blades, gripped handles built for control, and a tool that has earned its place on benches for years. Work it by feel, take your time, and let the steel tell you what it is touching.
