Dance for the Sky

Beneath the sweeping Milky Way, a dancer moves across the desert surrounded by towering red rock formations. The detail of his outfit and the energy of his movement bring a human presence to a landscape that feels almost endless. This photograph began with a conversation while visiting Mexican Hat, Utah. An employee at a nearby business told us about his dancing, and we asked if he would dance for us beneath the stars. What followed became one of the most memorable photography experiences I’ve ever had. Dance for the Sky is part of the series created that night and has earned awards of its own. Those honors mean a lot, but what I treasure most is the willingness of someone we had just met to share something he loved. As a print, this photograph brings the wonder of that desert night into your home, along with the story of an unexpected connection I’ll always remember.
