Dan Clark Audio Noire XO Brings Refined Planar Performance and Spacious Warmth to the Open-Back Arena Open-back headphones with a uniquely rich, well balanced tone Features new driver design for improved consistency and reliability Incorporates DCA's Acoustic Metamaterial Tuning System Produces a bass response profile comparable to a closed headphone Updated ear pads to reduce foam movement and increase comfort Made in the USA (San Diego, California) Bloom's Take The Noire XO is Dan Clark Audio’s most confident step into open-back territory yet — a planar magnetic headphone that doesn’t clamor for your attention but earns it through grace, balance, and emotional depth. Powered by a low-impedance, low-sensitivity driver system with integrated AMTS, the XO delivers tight control over its frequency response, emphasizing balance and spatial realism. Noire XO's bass performance stands out among open-backs — deep sub-bass extension and articulate punch rarely heard in this category. The midrange is clean and transparent, ideal for vocal clarity, while the treble showcases DCA’s finesse with no exaggerated peaks. XO’s imaging and staging are equally impressive, offering both width and intimacy, with a layered presentation that feels immersive without artificial exaggeration. It’s not a headphone that shouts, but one that gradually unveils its strengths — revealing technical precision beneath its warm, welcoming tone. While its relaxed delivery might not suit listeners craving edge or crunch, the Noire XO delivers a uniquely elegant sonic signature that balances technical rigor with musical richness — and cements its place as a standout in the $1000 open-back space. Read our full review here. Noire XO Noire XO is the open-back evolution of Noire X, bringing an expansive soundstage and full-spectrum performance rarely seen in open-back designs. The Noire XO stakes its claim as one of the few open headphones to follow the Harman Curve across all frequencies. While the Noire XO retains beloved features from the Noire X, like the self-tensioning headband, it also introduces key upgrades. A newly engineered driver delivers greater consistency and reliability over previous AEON 2 designs, while redesigned ear pads minimize internal foam movement and feature a soft Alcantara suede contact surface for enhanced comfort. Acoustic Metamaterial Tuning System (AMTS) The NOIRE XO includes DCA’s acclaimed AMTS tuning system, previously exclusive to flagship models. AMTS utilizes advanced metamaterial design to refine frequency response and eliminate high-frequency standing waves, which often cause harsh, synthetic treble. The result is a balanced, detailed, and fatigue-free treble that enhances the overall listening experience. Sound Experience Dan Clark Audio reaches new heights with Noire XO's sound profile. By using their new 5128 measurement fixture, they have produced a high-frequency signature that is effortlessly pleasing. Noire XO is a true industry leader in presenting an accurately rendered deep soundstage with crystal-clear layering of instruments and voices. Unlike typical open-back headphones, the Noire XO delivers not only a spacious and immersive soundstage but also powerful, clean bass. Listeners can enjoy precise imaging without compromising on an engaging bass experience. Additional Features Self-Tensioned Headband DCA's self-tensioning headband reduces listening fatigue by distributing pressure evenly across your head for a balanced, barely there fit. The uniform pressure distribution helps prevent hot-spots and pressure-points, making NOIRE XO ideal for long hours of immersive listening, free from adjustments or strain. Luxurious Comfort NOIRE XO features redesigned ear pads with Alcantara synthetic suede for superior comfort, reducing heat and moisture buildup during extended sessions. The pads minimize foam wear ("foam rolling") for improved durability and consistency.
