Dahlia Sunset Blaze Mix

The Dahlia 'Sunset Blaze' Mix is an energetic and high-contrast pairing designed to bring the warmth and intensity of a summer sunset to your landscape. This mix features two of the most reliable and perfectly formed ball-style dahlias in existence: the rich, velvety Dahlia 'Cornel' and the cheerful, radiant Dahlia 'Sunny Boy'. Together, they create a vibrant primary-color palette of deep crimson and golden yellow that commands attention from across the garden. This combination is ideal for gardeners who appreciate geometric perfection and long-lasting blooms. Both varieties produce tight, formal ball-shaped flowers that are exceptionally sturdy and rain-resistant, making them as practical as they are beautiful. Included Varieties: Dahlia 'Cornel': A gold-standard among red dahlias. It produces flawlessly symmetrical, 4-inch ball-shaped blooms in a deep, cherry red. Known for its incredibly strong stems and prolific flowering habit, it provides the "anchor" of saturated color for this mix. Dahlia 'Sunny Boy': The perfect companion to 'Cornel', this variety features bright yellow petals often touched with subtle orange-red highlights at the center. Its tidy, 3-4 inch globe-shaped flowers offer a luminous contrast that brightens the deeper tones of the red dahlia. Quick Facts: Foliage: Dense, medium-green foliage that creates a classic, bushy backdrop for the bright flower heads. Flowers: 3-4 inch formal ball-type blooms in a high-contrast mix of deep red and bright yellow. Light: Full Sun (at least 6-8 hours daily) is necessary to ensure the stems stay strong and the colors remain vivid. Growth Habit: Sturdy and upright; these varieties typically reach 36-42 inches tall. Hardiness: Hardy in USDA Zones 8-11. In Zones 3-7, tubers should be lifted after the first frost and stored in a cool, dry place for winter. Landscape Use: Excellent for mid-border plantings, vibrant "cutting gardens," and mass plantings where a bold color statement is desired. Pro Tip: Because 'Cornel' and 'Sunny Boy' are both "ball" dahlias, they have some of the best vase lives of any dahlia type. To maximize their time in an arrangement, harvest the flowers when they are fully open, as ball dahlias do not continue to open much once cut.
