D-Region Tomahawk

Inspired by NASA’s experimental flight no. 12.08G.T., the Estes D-Region Tomahawk is a meticulously crafted 1/5 scale model of the original single-stage sounding rocket launched in 1968. This rocket was used to probe the mysterious D-layer of the ionosphere—and now, you can recreate that mission in miniature with Estes’ faithful replica. The model preserves the look and dimensions of the original, with scale-accurate detailing and an impressive silhouette that towers at nearly 39 inches tall. Scale Up Your Skills with an Epic Build-and-Fly Experience Designed for intermediate rocketeers, the D-Region Tomahawk offers a build experience that’s both straightforward and rewarding. The rocket features large body tubes, a stuffer bulkhead, molded plastic parts for precise scale accuracy, and a vivid water-slide decal sheet for an authentic finish. A full-color painting and marking guide ensures your final product looks as good as it flies. Despite its size, this model flies stably and smoothly on recommended D12-3 or E12-4 engines using the included adapter. Max altitude? A breathtaking 750 feet. Powerful Launches and Bold Returns—Every Time This rocket isn’t just about the looks—it performs. The Tomahawk’s construction balances weight and aerodynamics, with a 24-inch nylon parachute to ensure a soft, damage-free recovery. Estes' precision-engineered components and flight-proven design ensure reliable launches and landings every time. The included orange engine spacer allows flexible motor selection, while dual launch lugs accommodate 3/16” Maxi Rods for steady takeoff. For E engine launches, pair it with the Estes Porta-Pad E Launch System and E Launch Controller. A True Collector’s Classic Back by popular demand, the D-Region Tomahawk brings a fan-favorite kit into the modern Estes lineup. Whether you’re building it as a display piece or flying it in the field, this rocket is a showstopper. It’s an ideal choice for experienced builders looking to level up, scale enthusiasts seeking an iconic NASA design, or anyone ready to take on a larger, more involved project.
