Jolly Hill Farms

This image captures the happy feeling inspired by the intimacy of a simple rural scene that one quickly glimpses through a car window while driving through the countryside. To "hold" such a momentary delight and help convey its brief transience, the painting is vertical. The eye passes across the short span from left to right very rapidly in control to the longer viewing time required to take in a horizontal piece. This scene, witnessed in an area of Pennsylvania near Lancaster, is a case in point. Its memory evokes one of many fleeting pleasures.
