THE STORY: The French phrase “Dépêchez-vous”—"make haste", "hurry up"—was originally etched into the base of an antique intaglio seal from the 1800s, a period when love, news, and longing traveled by hand and by post. The image depicts Cupid mid-aim, his arrow drawn toward a small flying heart just out of reach—as if to urge the recipient forward: "Don’t linger, time matters." The message feels timeless: for the love that’s running late, the love that’s waiting, the love already on its way toward you. A quiet reminder that some things—especially love—are worth moving quickly for. We’ve created a limited edition of 50 impressions from this original antique seal, each cast individually in sterling silver with its respective edition number engraved on the back. Every charm is made by hand, one at a time, resulting in subtle variations that make each piece entirely its own. Once the edition sells through, it will never be remade. _______________________ Each charm measures an average of .5-.75" in width, is one-of-a-kind, varies slightly in shape, and comes with a simple bail attached. If you would like a swivel clasp added to your charm, click here to add to your cart. Every charm is individually engraved with its edition number on the back. Send us an email at hello@glenandeffie.com to customize the back with engraving. _______________________ The History of Intaglio Seals With letters the main form of correspondence prior to the 1900s, intaglio seals were used to seal papers and documents with wax to ensure they remained unopened until it reached its intended recipient. These seals often held personal initials, family crests, heraldry, and other meaningful imagery. Owning a desk seal was a necessity for the middle and upper classes, but those who were too poor to afford such a luxury or were illiterate relied on a local scribe. These scribes would not only dictate messages, but the sender would choose from their assortment of seals as a preview to the message inside their letter.
