Cuffs (Los Angeles Gay Leather Bar/1981-2001)

Cuffs was a notable gay leather bar located at 1941 Hyperion Avenue in Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighborhood. It opened in 1981 and remained in operation until approximately 2001. Emerging during the height of Silver Lake's leather scene, Cuffs quickly became a cornerstone of the local LGBTQ+ nightlife. The bar was known for its intimate, dimly lit atmosphere, featuring black walls, red lighting, and minimal decor. This setting fostered a sense of camaraderie among patrons and provided a space that was both cruisy and laid-back.   During the AIDS crisis, when many overtly sexual venues closed, Cuffs persisted as a gathering place for the community. Its resilience made it a significant part of Los Angeles' LGBTQ+ history, particularly within the leather subculture . I use Bella + Canvas 3001 Unisex tees for all of my designs. They are a soft and light cotton. If you love another brand, please let me know and I can see if I can source it. I can also do my designs on tanks, long sleeve tees, sweatshirts, hoodies and posters. Just reach out with any custom requests and I'll gladly help you out. I do like large prints, but if you want the design scaled down, please contact me before placing an order and I can send you some mock ups.
