How Does a Vacuum Heater Work? Unlike pressure-activated heaters, a vacuum heater monitors water flow using a vacuum switch. When the whirlpool pump begins circulating water, the vacuum switch allows the heater to operate under proper flow conditions, helping maintain safe and reliable performance. Knowing whether your existing heater uses a vacuum switch or a pressure switch is one of the most important steps in selecting the correct replacement. Common Signs Your Heater Has Failed Water cools quickly during use Heater will not energize Vacuum switch no longer activates Circuit breaker trips Heater housing leaks Corrosion or mineral buildup Burned electrical terminals Frequently Asked Questions Is this an original CT101-D heater? No. This is a compatible replacement heater designed for compatible applications using the CT101-D part number. Does this heater fit every CT101-D application? Not necessarily. Manufacturers occasionally changed plumbing and electrical configurations during production. Always compare your existing heater before ordering. What is the difference between a pressure heater and a vacuum heater? A pressure heater uses a pressure switch to verify water flow, while a vacuum heater uses a vacuum switch. They are not interchangeable unless the entire control system is compatible. Will this heater warm cold bath water? No. Like the original heater design, it is intended to maintain bath water temperature during operation, not rapidly heat cold water. Not Sure Which Heater You Need? Whirlpool bathtub heaters are available in several different configurations. Although they may appear similar, tee-style, inline pressure, and inline vacuum heaters are not always interchangeable. Always verify your existing heater configuration before ordering. Looking For?
