Crossing Shadows

PHOTOGRAPHER: GREG LOTUS This striking black-and-white image is quintessential of Greg Lotus’s signature style: dramatic, minimalist, and meticulously composed. Set against a monumental, stepped concrete structure by the water, the scene evokes a powerful interplay of geometry and human presence. The wide horizontal platforms and the sharp, graphic shadows between them create a rhythmic architectural cadence—an elegant stage for the two figures. A man and a child, both in swimwear, appear as silhouettes in motion, their shadows stretching behind them. Their positioning—opposite in scale and direction—adds a narrative tension that suggests themes of time, transition, and generational dialogue. The photograph's spare composition heightens its emotional resonance, drawing the viewer into a moment that feels at once timeless and symbolic. This work captures the essence of Lotus’s ability to infuse sculptural environments with subtle human drama, making it a compelling addition to any collection focused on contemporary photography or minimalist figurative studies.
