Green Drake Cripple

The Green Drake Cripple is a highly effective dry fly designed to imitate a Green Drake mayfly that has become trapped during emergence. By representing a struggling insect unable to fully escape the surface film, this pattern offers trout an easy and vulnerable target that is often preferred over fully emerged adults. Green Drake hatches are among the most anticipated events in trout fishing, producing explosive surface feeding from large trout. During these hatches, fish frequently key in on crippled and emerging insects that remain trapped on the water. The low-riding profile and realistic silhouette of the Green Drake Cripple perfectly imitate this vulnerable stage, making it one of the most productive patterns to fish during a hatch. Ideal for rivers, streams, and tailwaters, the Green Drake Cripple excels when trout become selective and begin refusing standard dry flies.
