Blunt tip for safer practice while learning proper scissor skills Comfort-grip handles that are easy to hold and guide Works for left- and right-handed children for flexible use Ideal for paper and lightweight materials (great for early cutting activities) Why parents love them: Cutting is one of those “big milestones” skills, and these scissors make it easier to practice at home without feeling intimidating. They’re perfect for craft time, school projects, and simple activities like cutting strips, fringes, and shapes. Why art therapists love them: great for making paper crafts. Why occupational therapists love them: Scissor practice is a powerhouse for pediatric OT goals. These scissors can support: Hand strength and endurance (opening/closing through resistance) Hand separation (stabilizing with ulnar fingers while working with thumb/index/middle) Bilateral coordination (one hand cuts while the other hand stabilizes and turns paper) Visual-motor integration (staying on lines, curves, and corners) Motor planning (sequencing “open-close-move” and pivoting paper) Functional independence for classroom tasks (cutting, crafts, worksheets) Easy cutting practice ideas: Start simple: snip play-dough “snakes,” cut straws, or make fringe cuts along a thick strip. Build control: cut straight lines, then zigzags, then curves and simple shapes. OT-friendly upgrades: draw bold cutting paths with a marker, add “stop dots,” or tape paper to the table to reduce sliding. Tip: For best control, aim for a “thumbs up” cutting position and keep elbows supported on the table. Adult supervision recommended.
