Crape Myrtle Pink Velour

Description: The Crape Myrtle ‘Pink Velour’ is a deciduous ornamental small tree admired for its abundant, soft pink flowers that bloom in summer. The flowers form in large panicles at the branch tips, creating a striking and long-lasting display. Its glossy green foliage provides a lush backdrop for the blooms and turns warm shades of red and orange in the fall. The tree also features smooth, attractive bark, adding visual interest even when not in bloom. Size: Crape Myrtle ‘Pink Velour’ typically reaches a height of 15 to 20 feet (4.6 to 6.1 meters) with a spread of 10 to 12 feet (3 to 3.7 meters) at maturity. Available in 5-gallon, 15-gallon, 30-gallon, and 95-gallon sizes, this small tree has an upright, vase-shaped growth habit with multiple stems emerging from the base. It can be pruned to maintain a more compact form or allowed to grow taller as a stunning specimen plant. Best Growing Zones: This Crape Myrtle thrives in warm, temperate climates and is suited to USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. It prefers full sun exposure, receiving at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day, and is relatively drought tolerant once established. Soil Requirements: ‘Pink Velour’ Crape Myrtles prefer well-drained, fertile soils with good moisture retention. They adapt to sandy, loamy, or clay soils, provided drainage is sufficient. Adding organic matter such as compost or peat moss before planting enhances soil structure and supports vigorous growth. Maintenance: This variety is low-maintenance but benefits from regular care to encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering. Prune to remove dead, diseased, or overgrown branches and to maintain the desired shape. Light pruning can be done throughout the growing season, while heavier pruning is best in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges. Mulching around the base helps conserve soil moisture, reduce weeds, and protect shallow roots.
