Crane Swivels

Crane Swivels Are An Essential Terminal Tackle For Fishing and Rigging One of the most important tools in your arsenal is the crane swivel - a specialized type of fishing swivel designed specifically to prevent line twists and tangles. What is a crane swivel is. A crane swivel is a type of fishing swivel that is designed to rotate freely, preventing your fishing line from twisting and tangling. It gets its name from its elongated shape, which resembles the neck of a crane. The swivel consists of two rings joined by a barrel-shaped piece. One ring is attached to your main fishing line, while the other is attached to your leader line or lure. This design allows the swivel to rotate freely, reducing line twists and tangles that can result in lost fish and frustration. One of the critical features of a crane swivel is its strength. These swivels are designed to handle heavy loads, making them ideal for big-game fishing. They are commonly used in saltwater fishing applications, where the fish are larger and more powerful. A high-quality crane swivel will be made from durable materials that can withstand the harsh conditions of saltwater fishing, such as corrosion-resistant stainless steel or brass. Another essential feature of a crane swivel is its size. These swivels come in various sizes to accommodate different fishing line weights and lure sizes. As a general rule, the size of the swivel should match the strength of the strongest line it is attached to. For example, if your leader line is rated for 50 lbs and your main fishing line is rated for 30 lbs, then the swivel should withstand a weight of at least 50 pounds. Choosing the right size swivel will ensure that it can handle the weight of the fish you are targeting and prevent it from breaking under pressure. In addition to their strength and size, crane swivels offer excellent versatility. They can be used in various fishing applications, including trolling, jigging, and bottom fishing. They are also helpful for attaching lures or rigs that require a lot of movement, such as spinnerbaits or buzz baits. The swivel's ability to rotate freely allows the lure or rig to move more naturally in the water, making it more attractive to fish.
