This original atlas plate from Cram's Unrivaled Family Atlas of the World presents Washington Territory in the final years before statehood, capturing a Pacific Northwest on the cusp of transformation. Published by George F. Cram in Chicago during the mid-1880s, the map documents the territory's complex administrative geography, from the rain-soaked counties of the Olympic Peninsula to the expansive Indian reservations of the eastern plateau. The chromolithographic printing employs Cram's characteristic soft pastel palette, with counties distinguished in pink, yellow, green, and blue, while brown shading suggests the mountainous terrain of the Cascades. Every town, river, and rail line is meticulously noted, offering a detailed snapshot of settlement patterns just as the Northern Pacific Railroad was opening the region to waves of new immigrants. A compelling piece for collectors of Pacific Northwest history, territorial-era cartography, or late Victorian American atlas plates. The territorial designation makes this increasingly scarce, as Washington achieved statehood in November 1889. Size: 105" x 13.25" Artist: George F. Cram Condition: Very Good, Age-appropriate wear. Paper toning in accordance with the print's age. Marks/stains as per photo. Wear around the edges and minor paper loss might be present in some prints. Original fold lines may be present.
