This chromolithograph map of Ireland from Cram's Unrivaled Family Atlas presents the Emerald Isle in the rich, distinctive palette of late Victorian American cartography. Each of the 32 counties is carefully delineated in soft pastels of yellow, pink, green, and tan, while the surrounding Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea frame the island in deep blue. Published in Chicago by George F. Cram, one of America's preeminent atlas makers of the era, this map served as a vital reference for the millions of Irish-Americans who had crossed the Atlantic in the decades following the Great Famine. The detailed rendering of towns, bays, and geographic features allowed families to trace their ancestral roots across provinces from Ulster to Munster. A handsome example of Victorian educational publishing, the map features Cram's characteristic decorative border and includes population and area statistics that document Ireland at a pivotal moment in its history. A distinguished addition to any collection of antique cartography or Irish heritage materials. Size: 13.25" x 10.5" Artist: George F. Cram Condition: Very Good, Age-appropriate wear.
