Crackle Kit Texture Medium by Paint Couture. 2 part water-based crackle system. Use to create a cracked, aged and vintage effect on your mixed media projects.  Made in the USA.  Paint Couture Crackle Kit is a unique, water-based  two-step system designed to create stunning transparent glossy crackle finishes with incredible depth and durability. Step 1, “Size,” is applied first and helps determine the overall size and character of the crackle pattern. Achieve a fine line crackle network to a larger classic crackle pattern, depending on how thin or thick you apply Step 1; achieve varied crackle sizes when applied in varied thicknesses on the same project.  Step 2, “Crackle,” creates the beautiful transparent crackled finish that allows the underlying paint color to show through for a layered, artistic effect. Once dry, the crackle can be enhanced with Paint Couture Glazes, colored wax pastes or pigment powders to further highlight the intricate details and add even more dimension. This finish is extremely durable and does not require a protective topcoat. Step-by-Step Instructions: Paint your surface in the desired base color and allow it to dry completely. Apply one coat of Step 1 – Size. Allow it to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Apply Step 2 – Crackle using a brush. The direction of your brush strokes will influence the crackle pattern: Brush in straight lines for a more linear crackle effect. Use curved and varied brush strokes for a more organic, flowing crackle design. The thickness of your application will also affect the final look: Thicker application = larger crackle patterns Thinner application = finer, smaller crackle details Varying the thickness throughout your piece can create especially beautiful and artistic results. Dry time will vary depending on humidity levels, but in most cases the crackle will dry within 8–10 hours and be ready for glazing. To enhance the crackle effect, apply Paint Couture Glaze, colored wax pastes, or pigment powder with a brush and gently remove the excess using cheesecloth. Once the glaze is dry, your finish is complete. No topcoat is necessary, as the crackle finish is highly durable.
