Common Merganser Duck House

Offer specific ducks a safe and comfortable home with this fantastic Coveside Common Merganser Duck House. These dramatic ducks, with their black and white back, green head, and bold red bill offer an enchanting addition to your lakeside locale. Cavity nesting ducks are often dependent upon manmade housing for their roost, as they cannot excavate a cavity in trees like other birds. This home offers the perfect shelter for mergansers, with a slanted roof significantly overhanging the dwelling to prevent rain from entering the home, while ventilation slots on either side of the roof keep the interior temperature adequately regulated. Angled corners and a recessed bottom at the base of the home offer drainage to the nest, keeping it comfortable and dry. The 3.75" high, 4.75" wide entrance hole allows only the ducks to enter, and the absence of a perch enables a clear and safe entryway, serving to prevent predators from reaching the eggs. A ladder underneath the door inside the box aids nestlings in exiting the house when called by the mother, and the included bag of wood chips offers additional insulation and nesting material for the birds. One side panel opens in two sections, one to clean the nest and another for observation, and both close securely with metal latches. The 0.75" thick pine panels help insulate the home, while the light color of the unfinished pine keeps it cool in the summer. This sustainably sourced, eastern pine will age to a graceful gray color over time and with exposure to the elements, enhancing its natural beauty. A metal hanger at the top of the item allows it to be post or tree mounted with ease. Provide safe and ideal housing for the merganser population in your area with this Common Merganser Duck House.
