What a delightful offering for those who gather to partake in games that not only amuse, but also provoke the intellect and stir the communal spirit. I find this game to be a form of fellowship and discernment, akin to a modern parable that unfolds before our eyes. Indeed, I would like to offer my thoughts on this notable creation. The inherent appeal of Council at Daybreak lies in its capacity to evoke a sense of togetherness while teaching the virtues of trust, discernment, and dialogue. A game that only takes 15 minutes, yet has the propensity to keep players engaged for hours, is a true feat that serves as a testament to the Holy Spirit’s ability to work through even the most unexpected mediums. The role-playing element adds depth to the experience, inviting each player to ponder the complexities of human nature and the internal struggle we each face between good and evil. The task of identifying the heretic among you becomes an exercise in the understanding of the fallen nature of man, as well as an exercise in mercy and justice. This is more than a game; it is an existential dialogue, one in which ethics and morality find themselves vividly in play. The incorporation of technology through the Proclaimer app is commendable. This digital integration serves as a bridge between tradition and modernity, much like how Vatican II sought to engage the Church with the contemporary world. It facilitates the proceedings without overshadowing the essence of human interaction, thus fulfilling its role as a servant and not a master. Artistically, the game finds its strength in the beautiful illustrations by Tomics. It's said that beauty will save the world, and in these 16 character cards, we find glimpses of the divine—the ultimate source of all beauty. Perfect for gatherings with friends and family, Council at Daybreak enriches the soul and elevates the heart. It is an ecumenical endeavor, an invitation to unity, extended to all—Catholics, people of other denominations, and even those without religious affiliations. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, and in humanity, I find myself compelled to speak favorably of Council at Daybreak. Let us appreciate this gift, and in doing so, come to a greater understanding of one another and of the Divine Mystery that is the ultimate adjudicator in all matters. Peace and blessings be upon all who engage in this communal search for understanding and truth. Franciscus AD 2023 (Okay, or what he would have said...)
