Recording of Casey Harrison: Correct, Connect, Retain: Effective Error Correction for Students with Reading and Writing Disabilities Webinar

Presenter: Casey Harrison, LDT, CSLDS, CALT Description:  This session shows how to turn error correction into a powerful tool for learning in students with reading and writing challenges. Grounded in how the brain learns language, participants will explore why correcting errors carefully prevents students from practicing mistakes and helps build accurate reading and spelling skills. Educators will learn to move beyond simple correction and create meaningful learning interactions that strengthen memory and support skill transfer. The session covers how to use retrieval strategies—like guided recall, spaced practice, and timely feedback—and how to add targeted supports, including verbal prompts, visual aids, and multisensory techniques, to reduce cognitive load. By the end, participants will leave with practical routines and strategies to turn everyday errors into opportunities for growth, helping students retain more, learn faster, and build confidence—all while enhancing the impact of structured literacy instruction in any classroom or therapy setting.
