Drop Copper Sculpture

Created by dropping molten copper into water. Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula is the most important locality in the world for pure native copper. Mining began in 1845 and continued until 1968, with over 5 million tons of refined copper recovered from Michigan's copper mines. In the early 1900s, it led the world in copper production, and "Lake Copper" became the purity standard to which all other refined copper was compared. Long before the industrial mining operations of the past century, prehistoric peoples were already extracting copper from the mineral-rich veins of the Keweenaw. These copper sculptures were created from that very copper. Copper has a long and storied history with the world. Tracing its lineage back, copper first appeared in recorded history in 77 AD under the Greek name Cyprium, referencing the land where the malleable metal was mostly mined. The name later evolved into Cuprum and eventually became the word we use today — Copper. From folklore to finance, copper has accompanied humanity on quite a journey. In ancient times, it was linked to the Goddess of Love (Aphrodite) and Venus. It was polished to a shine and used as a mirror. In Rome, hefty lumps of copper served as currency, while the Egyptians used it to purify water and keep wounds clean. Despite its ancient association with healing and its use in early surgical tools in India, it wasn’t until the 1970s that the United States began recognizing the healing potential of copper. An amazing amplifier and conductor of energy, this warming mineral is believed to help release excess charge and conduct positive vibrations. Copper is also found in many gemstones, including Malachite, Turquoise, and Chrysocolla. According to metaphysics: Copper is believed to be rich in spiritual healing and metaphysical properties. It’s said to build a bridge between the physical and spiritual realms. As a powerful conductor, copper is thought to help channel higher beings and astral energies to those who are open and ready to receive. It may assist in clearing negative energy and rebalancing the chakras, placing you in a strong position to welcome all the goodness the spiritual world has to offer.
