Computer Science Essentials Grades: 3-5 Number of Students: 30 or 100 Number of Lessons: 7 Units Additional Resources: Flyer, Syllabus   Highlights: Computer Science Essentials blends unplugged learning with block-based programming, computational thinking, and core digital citizenship principles so students can learn the essential introductory computer science knowledge they need to be successful and safe in today’s changing world. This course is aligned to ISTE standards, utilizes a 5E lesson plan design, and builds skills students need to be successful in higher-level coding courses.   Curriculum or Lesson Topics: Hardware & Software Students learn about the inner workings of everyday electronics and computers. Computational Thinking Students learn the fundamentals of computer science including sequencing, abstraction, iteration, and encoding. Algorithms Students learn the strategies used in software and apply them to every-day processes. The Internet Students learn about the internet and how we use it to send and receive information. Cyber Safety In this section, students learn to identify online dangers and keep themselves safe. Digital Citizenship Students learn to be responsible internet citizens while browsing the web.
