Physicians can prescribe a wide range of medications that treat the same conditions but have very different impacts on the patient. Read on to gain a better understanding of our comprehensive PGx testing. What Is PGx testing? PGx testing is a process that analyzes your DNA in order to see how your body will react to different medications. This can include identifying sensitivities, allergies and other negative reactions that your body may have. These tests will provide you with an analysis of over 150 medications that will let you know which ones are the most effective according to your genetic makeup. The types of medications we test for include: pain management, cardiovascular, mental health, antiemetics, antifungals, immunosuppressants, and more. How Does It Work? PGx testing requires you to give a sample of your DNA using a simple, noninvasive cheek swab so that it can be tested against different medications. You will then need to use the testing kit given to you, follow the instructions included, send the samples back, and wait for the test results to return. Why Is It Important? You never know when you will be allergic to a type of medicine, so using a PGx testing tool can protect you from negative reactions to these medicines. On the other hand, you will also know which medications are the best for your body, so presenting your results will allow your doctor to immediately determine the best medication for you, as well as the correct dosage. What Are the Potential Benefits? Without the insight of a PGx test, your doctor will need to use trial and error to find the best medication for you, which could take precious months or even years, as well as unnecessary pain and suffering. However, if you opt for PGx testing, your physician will have an easier time prescribing you the most effective drug. This will save you from the long and tedious process of trying out different medications until you find the right one for you. PGx testing stands out as a great way for you to avoid negative reactions and wasting time on different medications. You can find out what type of medicine you should take and avoid the ones that will cause you problems. PGx testing is a great way to educate yourself and your doctor on the best medicine for your body.
