The flag consists of three alternating stripes of equal width and at right angles to the pole, of which the two outer stripes are blue. The middle stripe is white. One fifth of the length of the flag from the top of the flagpole is a circular red C. Completely filling the open space inside the letter C is a golden disk. This flag is an original design from Andrew Carlisle Johnson, the specific and precise coloring of the red and blue created controversy as they were not designated in the 1911 legislation. The colors of the flag symbolize Colorado's geographical features: gold symbolizing the states abundant sunshine; white representing snow-capped mountains; blue symbolizing clear blue skies; and red symbolizing the color of much of the states soil. The clean lines and bold bold colors of the Colorado flag make it easily recognizable and memorable.    Read more about the Colorado State Flag at the state of Colorado archives.
