Cog + Wheel quilt pattern

Denyse's Cog + Wheel pattern is based on a quilt featured in West Virginia Quilts and Quiltmakers: Echoes from the Hills (Ohio University Press, 2000) by Fawn Valentine. (The strong graphic motif of this quilt caught Denyse's eye and seemed very modern.) Created by Margaret Ellen Harris Gouris, it’s believed to be made from a pattern first commercially published around 1902 as “Dogwood Flower” in Hearth and Home magazine, and later in the Clara A. Stone pattern catalog in 1906. Any of Denyse's licensed fabric collections or patchwork panels will look great in this scrap-friendly pattern, or use fabrics from your stash to recreate the vintage-modern appeal of the cover quilt (made with DS Quilts' Darling fabrics). Up to a 1/2 yard of 10-12 fabrics will make a baby- to king-size quilt. Fat quarters work well for increasing the scrappiness of the quilt. Use any leftover fabrics for a portion of the backing. This pattern includes easy-to-follow instructions with diagrams, measurements, and full-size paper templates to make this quilt in crib/baby, twin, queen, or king size. Shop owners/teachers/guilds!
