This roast is best brewed as filter coffee, or as a very modern espresso. Mondul Estate is located within the Masai community on the slopes of Mount Monduli where an ideal microclimate and rich volcanic soils contribute to their coffee’s unique yet quintessentially Tanzanian profile. Founded in 1931, with new ownership in 2007, Mondul Estate aims to pair traditional methods with modern practices, with an emphasis on sustainability, technology and community. The estate uses bio fuels and recycled compost wherever possible, investing in modern technology to measure and manage water usage, for example. Farm staff are of the local Masai community and live on the farm; during the harvest 250 pickers from neighboring villages come for work, receiving pay, meals, and accommodation. Schooling, medical services, pension lands, and sports facilities are also provided.
