Coelogyne trinervis

Coelogyne trinervis Orchid – A Fragrant Beauty from Southeast Asia Coelogyne trinervis, a captivating orchid species, is found across diverse regions, including Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. This medium-sized epiphytic and lithophytic orchid thrives in warm, lowland forests where it can grow on trees or rocks, soaking up the seasonal rains that signal growth. Its distinctive olive-green pseudobulbs are ovoid, longitudinally grooved, and closely set, giving it a rugged yet elegant appearance. Coelogyne trinervis gets its name from its unique, three-veined leaves, which emerge gradually after its new growth has started flowering. Its creamy white flowers, adorned with delicate brown markings on the lip, bloom in clusters of up to 8 per inflorescence, and emit a fragrance that varies from light and airy to more intense. Cultivation Tips: Temperature: Coelogyne trinervis can adapt to a range of temperatures, from hot to cool growing conditions, though it prefers warmth for optimal growth. Aim for day temperatures of 75-85°F (24-29°C) and night temperatures between 60-65°F (15-18°C). Light: Provide bright, indirect light to encourage healthy growth. While this orchid can tolerate higher light levels, too much direct sunlight can reduce leaf size over time, so aim for a balance, especially during midday. Humidity: This orchid appreciates humidity levels between 60-80%, replicating the humid forests of its native habitat. Maintain airflow to prevent fungal issues. Watering: Regular watering is essential for Coelogyne trinervis, especially during its active growing season. Keep the medium evenly moist without allowing it to dry out completely. In drier seasons, a slight reduction in watering is acceptable but avoid a complete dry period, as this species does not require a rest to rebloom. Potting Medium: Coelogyne trinervis grows best in baskets or shallow pots with a well-draining, moisture-retentive medium, such as a mix of bark, sphagnum moss, and perlite. Its creeping rhizomes benefit from the openness of baskets, where they can spread comfortably. Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced orchid fertilizer every two weeks during active growth and reduce feeding during slower periods in fall and winter. This is a blooming size imported bare root orchid division; newly repotted in a 4" or 5" pot; about 1 to 2 years to bloom; Grown from seed; Limited! Coelogyne trinervis typically blooms in the fall, with its flowers emerging on new growth before leaves fully develop. Its flowering process is rapid, with blooms often opening within a few days of the inflorescences emerging. Enjoy the unique and potent fragrance that fills the space around this remarkable orchid.
