Work on the PzH 2000 began in the 1980s as part of the German Bundeswehr's artillery modernization program. The goal was to create a modern self-propelled howitzer that would replace older models like the M109. Prototypes of the PzH 2000 were tested in the early 1990s and the test results were promising, which led to the decision to start serial production. The PzH 2000 was introduced into service with the Bundeswehr in 1998. It is also used by several other countries such as the Netherlands, Italy, Greece, Lithuania and Croatia. The PzH 2000 is characterized by a high rate of fire, long range and an advanced fire control system, which makes it an extremely effective fire support tool on the battlefield. The ability to fire quickly and with advanced aiming systems allows for quick and precise targeting. The PzH 2000 has been used in various international operations, including NATO missions in Afghanistan. Its advanced artillery capabilities have proven to be extremely useful in demanding combat conditions, providing fire support for land forces.
