This extraordinary scene, immortalized by photographer Joe Rosenthal, became one of the most recognizable images of World War II, a symbol of courage, sacrifice and strength of spirit. The "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima" block set from COBI allows you to build this legendary shot, which has survived not only in photographs, but also in the hearts of all who remember heroic sacrifice of those who fought in the Pacific. The Battle of Iwo Jima - Fight for Every Piece of Land From February 19 to March 26, 1945, the ruthless fighting for the island of Iwo Jima raged in a storm of fire and conflict. The Battle of Suribachi Peak, which ended on February 23, was not the end of this battle. In fact, Japanese soldiers, defending themselves by hiding in a dense network of tunnels and bunkers, resisted until the last days of March. Of the American Marines who were forever immortalized in the photograph, three lost their lives as a result of this further brutal struggle. This photograph - the moment when the flag appeared over the island - became a symbol not only of victory, but also of the ultimate sacrifice.
