Coastal Comforts Coaster Set

Traditional designs meet modern function in our new Coastal Comforts Coaster Set, designed by Ts’msyen/Tsimshian artist and weaver Kandi McGilton. In this set of glazed ceramic coasters, Kandi has reimagined age-old basketry designs for a new use that is as functional and beautiful as the baskets they honor. "Basketry is one of the oldest art forms in the world, and was traditionally a utilitarian skill," shares Kandi, who herself is a practitioner and teacher of Annette Island cedar bark weaving. Kandi helps bring these traditional designs to new audiences by using them to decorate a variety of modern home goods, including her Ancestral Echoes Wool Blanket and now her Coastal Comforts Coaster Set. This set of ceramic coasters comes packaged with a wooden case, perfect for display and storage, while each coaster has a cork bottom to prevent scratching. The set shares four different embossed designs, each depicting a traditional Northwest Coast basketry pattern, including: Sandhill: repeating triangles in a blush pink glaze Spiraling Cresting Wave: spiraling geometric waves in a pale forest green glaze Modified Box Within a Box: concentric squares with corner details in a powder blue glaze Raven’s Tail: diamond pattern in a light brown glaze Whether you're protecting your coffee table from your morning coffee, or using as a trivet under a small plant pot or candle, may our Coastal Comforts Coaster Set help you feel ready for the day ahead while comforted by these familiar, traditional designs.
