CMT184c Cold Mountain Thunderegg Cabochon

This Cold Mountain Thunderegg polished cabochon shows brecciated patterning in a mix of translucent chalcedony and opaque hues of muted pink, tan, and deep brick red. 28mm x 28mm Designer Cabochons: The Gem Shop, Inc. produces free form designer cabochons for the custom metal smith, hobbyist, and collector. All of the cabs shown are cut and polished by hand in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. The Gem Shop, Inc. specializes in fine agates and fine jaspers including Laguna Agate, Agua Nueva Agate, Black Druzy, Natural Druzy, Lace Agate, Willow Creek Jasper, Imperial Jasper, Morrison Ranch Jasper, and Ocean Jasper®. All of our cabs are one-of-a-kind. These cabs have a slightly beveled edge, buff (slightly curved) top, and flat unpolished back, unless otherwise noted. All have the Gem Shop mirror-like polish!  Cold Mountain Thundereggs are from the Sierra Mountains in Mexico. The thundereggs can contain water banding and feature red, mauve, or black “webbing.” While technically a rhyolite due to its thunderegg nature, Cold Mountain Thundereggs are highly silicate and feature large amounts of brecciation that has also been filled with silica, so this material takes an exceptional polish, making it ideal for both cabochons and specimens.
