Cleveland Select Callery Pear

Cleveland Select Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana 'Cleveland Select')Cleveland Select Callery Pear is a narrow, upright flowering tree that adds strong structure and spring color without taking up much width. In early spring it fills the canopy with white bloom, giving quick curb appeal along streets, drives, and front-yard beds. Through summer, glossy green leaves keep the tree looking neat and finished, even in tougher sites. Fall brings a rich mix of red, purple, and bronze tones that extends the show well beyond spring. Distinctive FeaturesThis cultivar is valued for its tight, pyramidal to narrow-oval habit and dense branching that creates a clean silhouette. White spring flowers appear in clusters, followed by small, firm fruits that may develop later in the season and can attract birds. Leaves are glossy and dark green in summer, then shift to strong burgundy, purple, and red tones in fall. It is often chosen as a more orderly alternative to broader ornamental pears, especially where space is limited. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun for best flowering, canopy density, and fall color. Soil: Adaptable to many soils, including clay, with best performance in well-drained ground. Water: Medium, water regularly during establishment, then provide supplemental water during extended drought. USDA Zones: 5 to 8. Mature Size: About 30 to 40 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet wide. Habit: Narrow, upright, pyramidal to narrow-oval. Flowers: White flower clusters in early spring. Fruit: Small, hard fruits that may form and persist into fall. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Use as a vertical specimen where spring bloom and deep fall color can punctuate a main view without blocking sightlines. Street Tree: Fits tighter planting strips where an upright canopy helps with space and clearance. Driveway and Walkway Lines: Plant in repeating rows to create a formal, architectural rhythm. Foundation Accents: Place near corners or along taller backdrops to add height and structure without bulk. Screening: Use in narrow rows for a tall visual buffer where width is limited. Low Maintenance Care Pruning: Prune in late winter to maintain a strong leader and remove crossing branches, especially while young. Watering: Deep water through the first one to two growing seasons to establish a resilient root system. Mulching: Mulch over the root zone to conserve moisture and reduce weeds, keeping mulch off the trunk. Placement: Allow room for mature height and avoid planting directly under overhead wires. Monitoring: Watch for stress in hot, dry periods and respond with consistent moisture and good air flow. Why Choose Cleveland Select Callery Pear?
