Clematis Paulie

Most hydrangeas offer one season of interest. Hydrangea paniculata 'ILVOFLARE', sold as FLARE™ by Bloomin' Easy®, delivers three. The large cone-shaped flower clusters open creamy white in early summer, shift to blush pink by late summer, and deepen to a genuine rose-red as fall temperatures drop, a color progression that turns heads in the garden from July through October. A Hydrangea That Actually Turns Red The color shift in FLARE™ is driven by anthocyanins, pigments that develop as chlorophyll breaks down in cooler fall conditions. In zones 3-6, where nights cool early, the flowers can reach a true deep rose-red by September. In warmer zones 7-8, the transition peaks at a rich pink. Either way, the dried flower heads hold color well into winter, providing structure and visual interest long after most perennials have gone dormant. Size and Growth Habit FLARE™ reaches 4-6 ft tall and wide at maturity, growing at a moderate pace of roughly 6-12 inches per year. This compact, rounded form fits naturally into foundation plantings, mixed shrub borders, and even large containers, filling the space without overwhelming adjacent plants. The upright branching habit keeps the plant tidy with minimal intervention. Landscape Uses for FLARE™ Hydrangea The compact size and long season of interest make FLARE™ one of the most versatile hydrangeas for residential landscapes. Use it as: A foundation anchor where you need something that earns its place from June through frost A mid-border specimen surrounded by ornamental grasses or late-blooming perennials A low hedge or screen between properties (space plants 4 ft apart) A container focal point on a large patio or deck (use a 25+ gallon container) FLARE™ pairs especially well with ornamental grasses, black-eyed Susans, and fall-blooming asters that complement the color transition from white to red. Cold Hardy Down to Zone 3 Unlike bigleaf hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla), which famously skip blooming after harsh winters, FLARE™ blooms reliably every year because it flowers on new wood produced each spring. Late frosts, polar vortex winters, and hard pruning all reset to zero without affecting the season's bloom. Gardeners in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and other cold-climate zones can plant FLARE™ with confidence. Care at a Glance FLARE™ is straightforward to maintain. It thrives in full sun to partial shade, prefers consistent moisture with well-drained soil, and benefits from a simple late-winter pruning to maximize flower size. One spring fertilizer application is all it typically needs. No deadheading is required, though leaving dried heads on through winter adds texture and extends seasonal interest. Order FLARE™ Panicle Hydrangea Today If you want a hydrangea that earns its spot in the garden from the first bloom through hard frost, FLARE™ Panicle Hydrangea delivers a color show that most shrubs simply cannot match. Hardy, compact, and genuinely stunning in fall, it is one of the best panicle hydrangeas available for cold-climate and four-season gardens.
