Clear Gel Coat Kits

What Is #190 - #191 Gloss Clear Gel Coat? #190-#191 Gloss Clear Gel Coat is a two-component, solvent-based polyurethane clear gel coat designed for coating and protecting: Fiberglass (FRP / GRP) Carbon fiber (CFRP) Advanced composite parts It provides high-gloss clarity, UV stability, and long-term durability in marine, industrial, and structural composite environments. Why Fabricators Choose This Clear Gel Coat Superior UV & Weather Resistance Maintains gloss and clarity in exterior and marine exposure. Chemical & Mechanical Durability Resists abrasion, fuels, solvents, and environmental stress. Sandable & Polishable Finish Cures to a surface that can be wet sanded and buffed to a professional, mirror-like gloss Professional Spray Application Designed for cup-gun spray systems for consistent film build and coverage. Technical Specifications Chemistry: Two-component polyurethane Mix Ratio: 100:15 by weight 7.5:1 by volume Application Method: Spray (standard cup gun) Working Time (Pot Life @ 68°F / 20°C): 6–8 hours Dust-Free Time: ~1 hour Sand/Recoat Time: 24 hours Forced Cure: Yes, to reduce cure time Shelf Life: 12 months (proper storage required) Recommended Applications Marine composite parts Carbon fiber panels and components Industrial FRP structures Automotive composite parts Molded fiberglass assemblies Aerospace-adjacent composite applications This product is intended for professional composite shops and industrial users, though experienced DIY composite builders may also use it successfully. Surface Preparation Guidelines For best adhesion and performance: Ensure surface is clean, dry, and free of contaminants. Mechanically sand prior to application. Apply in controlled shop conditions. Follow all polyurethane mixing and spray safety protocols. Always review the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and comply with OSHA and EPA regulations. What is clear gel coat used for? Clear gel coat is used to seal, protect, and enhance the appearance of fiberglass and carbon fiber composite parts while providing UV and chemical resistance. Can this gel coat be polished to a high gloss? Yes. After curing, the surface is fully sandable and polishable to achieve a smooth, mirror-like finish. Is this gel coat UV resistant? Yes. It is engineered for long-term UV stability and exterior durability. How long does polyurethane gel coat take to cure? At 68°F (20°C), it becomes dust-free in about one hour and is ready for sanding or recoating after 24 hours. Forced curing can reduce cure times. How is this gel coat applied? It is spray-applied using standard cup-gun spray equipment after mixing with a compatible polyurethane hardener. Storage & Handling Store in original sealed containers. Maintain proper temperature control. Shelf life is 12 months when stored correctly. Use appropriate PPE during mixing and spraying.
