Clara Curtis Hardy Garden Mum (Dendranthema 'Clara Curtis')Clara Curtis Hardy Garden Mum brings a clean wave of soft pink daisy flowers when the garden most needs a second wind. The naturally rounded habit looks finished without complicated design work, making it an easy upgrade for borders, foundations, and fall containers. As temperatures cool, the bloom show holds longer and keeps color strong well into autumn. If you want a dependable perennial mum that returns and performs with real late-season impact, this is a classic choice. Distinctive FeaturesThis hardy garden mum forms a dense, bushy mound of lobed green foliage and covers itself with single, daisy-like flowers in warm pink tones with yellow centers. Bloom typically runs from late summer into mid fall, often peaking in September to October depending on climate. The plant branches well and creates a broad, flower-packed silhouette that reads as a solid block of color in the landscape. Mature size is typically about 18 to 24 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. Growing Conditions Sun: Full sun for the best flowering and a tight, sturdy habit. Soil: Fertile, well-drained soil that holds even moisture, and avoid sites that stay wet in winter. Water: Medium, keep evenly moist during active growth and bud set, especially in late summer. Zones: USDA Zones 4 to 9. Notable Traits: Strong fall performance and deer resistance is often reported. Ideal Uses Focal Point: Mass several plants as a focal point so the pink flowers read as a bold fall statement near an entry or along a main garden view. Front Borders: Line bed edges for a clean, mounded layer of bloom that refreshes the garden in fall. Foundation Plantings: Tuck into sunny foundation beds to add late-season color and tidy structure. Containers: Plant in large pots for a full, seasonal display that looks polished through cool weather. Low Maintenance Care Pinching: Pinch stems back in late spring to early summer to encourage branching and a fuller bloom show. Watering: Water consistently during bud development, since drought stress can reduce flower count and quality. Deadheading: Remove spent blooms to keep plants looking fresh and extend the display. Winter Care: Leave stems standing for winter and cut back in early spring, then mulch lightly to protect crowns in colder sites. Why Choose Clara Curtis Hardy Garden Mum?
