This is a strong choice for adding long-lasting flower color without needing a large plant or a complicated care routine. When you want dependable beauty for a tabletop, entry, or shaded patio accent, Clara fits naturally into the space. Distinctive FeaturesBegonia x hiemalis 'Clara' is an elatior or Rieger begonia known for its abundant fully double white flowers carried above smooth, deep green leaves. The plant develops a compact, upright to rounded form that stays full and balanced in a container. Flowering is especially heavy under shorter day conditions, but the display can remain impressive for weeks indoors. Its bright white blooms and tidy habit give it a cleaner, more formal appearance than many other flowering begonias. Growing Conditions Sun: Provide bright indirect light or gentle morning sun, while avoiding harsh direct afternoon exposure. Soil: Grow in rich, well-drained potting soil with good aeration and moderate moisture retention. Water: Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry, keeping the root zone evenly moist but never soggy. Zones: Best grown outdoors in USDA Zones 10 to 11, and commonly grown as a flowering houseplant elsewhere. Habit: Expect a compact, rounded plant that commonly reaches about 10 to 12 inches tall and about 8 to 10 inches wide in a container. Ideal Uses Houseplant: Its clean flower color and compact form make it an excellent choice for bright rooms, desks, and tabletop displays. Containers: Clara Rieger Begonia performs beautifully in decorative pots on porches, covered patios, and entry areas. Gift Planting: The bright white blooms and refined presentation make it a natural fit for seasonal gifts and special occasions. Indoor Color: Use it to brighten interiors during cooler months when long-lasting potted flowers are especially welcome. Focal Point: Clara Rieger Begonia creates a bright focal point in a small container arrangement where its double white flowers can anchor the display. Low Maintenance Care Watering: Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, allowing the surface to dry slightly between waterings. Grooming: Remove spent blooms and damaged leaves to keep the plant tidy and encourage a longer-lasting display. Feeding: Apply a diluted balanced fertilizer during active growth to support flowering and healthy foliage. Placement: Provide good air circulation and protect the plant from hot direct sun, frost, and cold drafts. Drainage: Always use a pot with drainage, since overly wet soil can quickly reduce vigor and flower quality. Why Choose Clara Rieger Begonia?
