Southern Citrus Sun Tea

In the heart of Natchez, Mississippi, stood a grand antebellum mansion transformed into a charming bed and breakfast by Miss Mabel Beauregard, a woman as warm and inviting as the Southern sun itself. Miss Mabel's B&B quickly became renowned not just for its gracious hospitality and elegant rooms, but for a truly magical elixir she called "Southern Citrus Sun Tea." Guests would gather on the wraparound porch each afternoon, eagerly awaiting their daily glass of this refreshing brew. The recipe, Miss Mabel confided, was inspired by the flavors of her beloved Southern home: Lemon balm, lemon verbena, and hibiscus from her carefully tended herb garden Oranges from the old orchard out back Vanilla beans bartered from river boat traders Sugar cane from local plantations Each morning, Miss Mabel would carefully blend these ingredients in large glass jars, which she'd set out on the sun-drenched lawn. By teatime, the brew had transformed into a ruby-tinged golden nectar that tasted of sunshine and sweet citrus, with delicate floral notes. For the gentlemen guests, Miss Mabel was known to add a jigger of fine rye whiskey with a conspiratorial wink, creating a subtly spirited version of her famous tea.
