Circling the Start

Circling the Start by Dixie Denman Junius is a groundbreaking debut in the Anhinga Visual Poetry Series, offering a transformative journey through the realms of visual poetry, asemics and glitch. Chosen by curator Kristine Snodgrass for its vibrant script work and radical meditative energy, this book invites readers to explore the depths of artistic expression with 57 full-color illustrations The Enso becomes asemic and the asemic becomes glitch, and then the collection, and our collective minds as we meditate through writing and non-writing, transcend even the base definition of asemic: work that looks like a writing system without semantic meaning. Glitch is unconstrained in its curtain through chance. No glitch can ever be recreated and is ultimately out of the practioners' control. Still, the process of glitching is deeply personal. Symbol to non-symbol, image to symbolic. This is the Circling.   Raised in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York, Dixie Denman Junius  attended Hartwick College and graduated from Boston University. After pursuing a corporate career in Boston, she moved to Southern California where she became known for her handmade paper and fiber art. Dixie lived in Hawaii for several years before relocating to Portland, Oregon, where she now resides. Currently, in addition to her creative efforts, Dixie teaches intuitive watercolor and papermaking. Dixie is one of the most prolific visual poets in our field — another woman carrying the weight of the new expanded field with power and love." - Kristine Snodgrass
