Opuntia Rufida, Cinnamon Prickly Pear Cactus Plant

Opuntia rufida is sometimes called the cinnamon prickly pear. Very similar growth habit to the angel wings or bunny ear prickly pears. The pads are a vibrant green speckled with cinnamon colored small spines called glochids. These prickly pears can also have some purple on the pads depending on temperature and sun exposure. The purple comes out in cooler weather and when planting them in a full sun exposure. The flowers on this prickly pear are yellow. This particular prickly pear can grow to three feet tall and spread out to about eight feet in diameter when planted in the ground. Very fast grower! Cold hardy to fifteen degrees. The cinnamon prickly pear makes a nice contrast when planted in your landscape as an accent plant. It also makes a very attractive, low maintenance and tough potted plant as well.
