Chocklett's Flex Minnow Eyes

Blane Chocklett's Flex Weighted Minnow Eyes are a revolutionary fly-tying component designed to replace traditional rigid dumbbell eyes. These specialized streamer components combine a built-in keel weight with a flexible, durable connection stem. They are engineered to solve common design flaws associated with traditional heavy fly eyes, providing a more stable, lifelike presentation for baitfish and minnow imitations.  Key Features & Design Features • Flexible Connecting Stem: The core innovation is a supple connection that allows the eyes to bend and instantly return to their original position. • Integrated Keel Weight: Provides essential belly-weighting to ensure the fly tracks perfectly straight and resists rolling over during aggressive retrievals. • Anti-Snag Deflection: Because the stems flex, they easily deflect off of underwater hazards like rocks, timber, and heavy weeds rather than catching and snagging. • Enhanced Movement: The flexible material allows the eyes to undulate slightly in the water column, adding a subtle secondary lifelike vibration.  Tying & Performance Benefits • No-Roll Flat Profiles: Traditional round dumbbell eyes easily roll around and twist on the hook shank during assembly. The flat, tapered base of the Flex Minnow Eyes seats flatly against the hook or shank, allowing symmetrical thread-wrap security with minimal bulk. • Aerodynamic Casting: The flexible material can fold back dynamically during high-speed forward and backward casts, dramatically reducing wind resistance compared to standard metal dumbbell eyes. • Extreme Durability: Unlike standard rigid glass, epoxy, or plastic post-eyes that easily fracture when striking rocks or teeth, the impact-resistant polymer design bounces back from abuse.  Ideal Fly Patterns These weighted components are custom-tailored for large predatory streamers that target species like trout, smallmouth bass, pike, musky, Striper, Tarpon, bonefish, permit and many other species. They are highly utilized on multi-segmented articulated systems such as the Game Changer platform, large minnow imitations, and erratic jerk-style streamers, Clouser style flies and deceivers.
