Chestnut Preppy Cotton Plaid

We always love to search for fabrics that are on trend but also classic. And this plaid was too good to pass up. It has that thrift store vintage find look with a preppy edge, but plaid is such a classic that it doesn't feel tied to a trend. We love how easily it can change personality depending on what you make. We particularly love a simple gathered skirt or easy summer dress. It's a simple print that has some major personality. Fabric Details This is a lightweight, high-quality cotton with a comfortable feel and just enough structure for easygoing garments. It’s breathable, versatile, and especially nice for pieces you can wear on their own in warmer weather or layer as the seasons begin to change. Content: 100% Cotton Width: 57" (145 cm) Weight: 132 gsm (3.9 oz) What It’s Like to Sew This is the kind of fabric that quietly behaves itself. It cuts cleanly, presses nicely, and stays put while you sew, making it a friendly choice for beginners and experienced sewists alike. You can carefully match the plaid for a classic finish, but you definitely don’t have to be too serious about it. Turning the checks in a different direction on pockets, waistbands, yokes, or cuffs is an easy way to add a playful detail. What to Sew The lightweight feel is perfect for relaxed pieces that can move easily between seasons. We’d reach for it to make: Breezy dresses and sundresses Gathered or A-line skirts Elastic-waist pants and shorts Boxy tops Button-up shirts Lightweight overshirts Pajama sets Care & Color Notes We recommend prewashing your fabric in the same way you plan to care for your finished garment. Machine wash in cold water on a gentle cycle and hang to dry. Use a warm iron when needed. We do our very best to photograph our fabrics as accurately as possible, but every screen displays color a little differently. Because of this, the color you see on your computer, tablet, or phone may not be an exact match to the fabric in person. If color is especially important for your project, we always recommend ordering a swatch first.
