Cheng-Khee Chee: Splash Color Technique

In this video workshop you'll see exactly how master artist Cheng-Khee Chee uses his techniques to most effortlessly paint dramatic landscape scenes. Chee demonstrates how to create a surface that gives you rich texture and artistic flexibility. He shows the benefits of risk taking that will add excitement and interest to your paintings. You see the simplicity of his drawing, his energetic brushwork and his decisive design. He discusses left brain emotion while vigorously applying paint, tipping and turning the board and creating an exciting, rich surface. Chee then puts to work his rational mind and applies his design principles and thorough knowledge of his subject to create a dynamic painting rich in movement, depth, texture and drama. This film is fourth in the Cheng-Khee Chee series but also stands independently as a complete discussion of the splash color technique. In the splash color technique, Chee shows you which subjects lend themselves to this style of painting. He discusses what is needed in a sketch and how to texture the painting surface and offers tips on ways to prepare and apply pigment. Chee encourages emotional expression in a limited time frame and permits the pigment to do its part without too much interference. In the second stage, Chee demonstrates his analytical side. He makes sure the direction of light is consistent. He enhances the sense of distance, balances warm and cool areas, creates and augments movement, and develops a strong composition. The end result is a rich landscape with solidity and fluidity. For a natural expression of rugged scenes join Cheng-Khee Chee in the Splash Color Technique.   BONUS CLIP: Texturing Watercolor with Acrylic Gel Medium In this clip from his video workshop, Splash Color Technique, Cheng-Khee Chee shows you how to create exciting textures with watercolor by painting over an acrylic gel medium resist.
