Charcoal Boiled Wool Kimono Coat

There are certain pieces that quietly become indispensable in a wardrobe, and this boiled wool kimono coat is one of them. Effortless, elegant, and endlessly versatile, it drapes beautifully over every Pax Philomena silhouette—from flowing Italian silk kaftans to our tailored tunics. Jean Marie especially loves wearing this piece over the black and white Italian silks in the collection, where its charcoal tone adds warmth and structure. Boiled wool belongs to one of the oldest textile traditions known to humanity. The process behind it—felting wool fibers together through heat, moisture, and friction—has been practiced for thousands of years and predates many weaving techniques. Archaeological discoveries show felted wool textiles dating back over two millennia, while evidence of wool felting techniques may reach as far back as the Neolithic era when early civilizations first domesticated sheep. Ancient Greeks and Romans used felted wool for cloaks, tunics, and protective garments, recognizing its extraordinary insulating qualities and durability. The boiled wool used today continues this ancient tradition. Wool fabric is washed and agitated in hot water—a process historically known as fulling—which causes the microscopic scales of the wool fibers to interlock and compress into a dense, resilient textile. The result is a fabric that is naturally insulating, wind resistant, and remarkably resistant to water, while remaining breathable and comfortable to wear. One of the most beloved qualities of boiled wool is its practicality. The fabric holds its structure beautifully and naturally resists wrinkles, making it a perfect travel companion. Whether folded into a carry-on, draped over a seat on a long flight, or worn throughout a full day of movement, it maintains its elegant appearance with almost no effort. It is precisely the kind of piece that becomes a trusted companion wherever you go. The silhouette is generous and fluid, designed to flatter every height and figure. The wide kimono sleeves create graceful movement, while the softly structured wool provides warmth without weight. It layers effortlessly over dresses, tunics, or even simple separates, making it one of the most versatile outer pieces in the Pax Philomena wardrobe. We were only able to secure a very limited number of these coats. It is the sort of timeless garment that becomes a constant companion—one you reach for again and again because it simply works with everything. One size  100% boiled wool Made in India Dry Clean
