Change ~ Hagalz Rune

The image side of this Rune shows A solid band which divides parallel lines on the bottom, and dotted lines on the top. The solid bar represents the moment of change, the action the assists one state into transformation of another.  The Symbol side of this piece shows the Hagalz rune, which comes from Old Norse “Hagall” which translates roughly to “hail” or “hailstone.” This rune is traditionally associated with disruption and transformation. It represents the hailstorm that can damage crops, but also the remaining ice pellets which can nourish the soil and prepare it for the next cycle of growth. This rune is linked to the Norns, the Norse wise women of fate. In this context, Hagalaz can symbolize the inevitable changes that life brings, and the need to adapt and grow with these changes. Hagalaz belongs to the second aett of the Elder Futhark which represents forces in the world which act upon you. These can be both beneficial and negative. Runes in this aett have the potential to assist you with directing some of these external forces to bring a positivity outcome. This aett carries themes of resistance, survival, and the cyclical nature of life. The notion of Hagalaz, with its concepts of endurance and regeneration, fits perfectly into this sett. The Norse Rune or "letter" featured on one side of my Runes is taken from a writing system called Elder Futhark. There are many explanations of this Norse writing system in both classical and popular literature. The image side of every Rune represents emotional attributes of its Nordic letter and are pictograms of my own creation. Each Rune description includes an etymological reference of historical origins well as modern meanings. There are a total of 24 Elder Futhark Runes. They can be divided into three groups of 8 runes each. Each group of 8 is called an “aett” which has an several underlying meanings that can be shared by all 8 runes within it. The additional insight from the Aett formation can help clarify individual rune interpretations. These beautiful, handmade Rune Charms are heavyweight, with deep carvings on both sides of the Rune. Each Rune comes with a jump ring large enough to thread on a chain.  The one shown is the  2.2mm Square Cable Chain. Runes are solid Sterling Silver and measure approximately 5/8" high x 7/16" wide x 3/32" deep.
