4-1/2" x 7/8" Ceramic Resin Fiber Sanding Discs - 36 Grit - 25 Pack

Fibre Glast's Ceramic Resin Fiber Discs use the latest in abrasive grain technology. Our Ceramic Resin Fibre Discs feature heat-treated ceramic grains with a lubricated ceramic coating adhered to a heavy-duty vulcanized fiber backing. These discs are designed to cut fast, stay cool, and have minimal loading. Fibre Glast Ceramic Resin Fiber Discs will last longer against the toughest metal alloys and composite materials. These discs are well suited for aggressive stock removal on a heat sensitive materials. These discs will not discolor or burn the work material. Ceramic Resin Fiber Discs can be effectively used on fiberglass composites. Fiberglass composites typically consist of glass fibers embedded in a resin matrix, and ceramic resin fiber discs can provide efficient material removal and surface preparation for these types of composites. Here are some considerations when using ceramic resin fiber discs on fiberglass composites: Material Compatibility: Ceramic Resin Fiber Discs are generally compatible with fiberglass composites. The ceramic abrasive grains are hard and durable, making them suitable for grinding and removing material from the composite surface. However, it's still important to ensure that the specific resin used in the composite is compatible with ceramic abrasives. Some specialized resins may require alternative abrasive materials. Surface Finish: Fiberglass composites often require a smooth and even surface finish for aesthetics and functionality. Our Ceramic Resin Fiber Discs are intended for stock removal. To achieve a relatively smooth finish, the grit size of the disc plays a significant role. Finer grit sizes, look to our Aluminum Oxide Sanding Discs. It may be necessary to use multiple grit sizes in a progressive manner to achieve the desired surface quality. For a final finish, use our Pai Boat Polishing Compounds. Heat Generation: While ceramic resin fiber discs can generate heat during grinding due to their aggressive cutting action, fiberglass composites are generally more heat-resistant compared to thermosetting resins. However, excessive heat can still cause resin softening or degradation, which may affect the composite's integrity. Monitoring the temperature during the grinding process and avoiding prolonged grinding in a single spot can help prevent overheating. Fiber Fraying: Fiberglass composites consist of glass fibers, which can fray or become damaged during abrasive operations. Ceramic resin fiber discs, being relatively aggressive, may increase the risk of fiber fraying. To minimize fiber damage, it is important to use the appropriate disc grit, apply the correct technique (such as using light pressure and maintaining consistent speed), and periodically inspect the workpiece for any signs of fiber fraying or damage. Dust and Safety: Grinding fiberglass composites can generate fine dust particles, which can be harmful when inhaled. It is crucial to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as a dust mask, safety goggles, and protective clothing, to protect yourself from the dust. Additionally, it is recommended to work in a well-ventilated area or use local exhaust ventilation to control dust dispersion. As always, it is recommended to conduct testing on a small, inconspicuous area of the fiberglass composite before proceeding with large-scale operations. This allows you to assess the compatibility of the ceramic resin fiber discs with the specific composite material and determine the optimal grinding parameters for achieving the desired surface finish while minimizing any potential damage to the composite.
