Experience the ethereal beauty of the Cattleya trianae var. coerulea, a truly extraordinary orchid species boasting rare lavender-blue petals with a captivating dark blue-purple lip and a stunning yellow throat. Known as the "Christmas orchid" or Flor de Mayo, this exquisite plant holds immense significance as Colombia's national flower, and it's no wonder why! Cultivating Tips: Cattleya trianae var. coerulea thrives when provided with the right care and conditions. To ensure optimal growth and blooming, we recommend the following cultivation tips: Growing Medium: Plant your Christmas orchid in a well-draining medium bark, which will mimic its natural epiphytic habitat and provide essential aeration for its roots. Sunlight: Place the orchid where it can receive partial to full sun exposure. This species enjoys bright light but should be protected from intense, direct sunlight, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Temperature: This orchid species prefers intermediate to warm growing conditions. Maintain temperatures between 65°F to 80°F (18°C to 27°C) during the day and slightly cooler at night. Watering: Water your Cattleya trianae var. coerulea approximately once a week, allowing the growing medium to dry out slightly between watering sessions. During the winter, reduce watering to avoid overhydration. Flower Longevity: Be prepared to marvel at the magnificent flowers for an extended period. C. trianae var. coerulea boasts the longest-lasting blooms among all Cattleya orchid species, often remaining vibrant for up to five weeks! Vigorous Growth: Witness the vigor of this orchid as it produces two growths each year, one after the other, adorned with exquisite flowers on both stems. Disease Resistance: Unlike some other orchid varieties, C. trianae var. coerulea is relatively resistant to rot and can handle overwatering better, making it a suitable choice for both beginners and seasoned enthusiasts. This is a blooming size imported bare root orchid; newly repotted in a 5" clay pot, about 1 to 2 years to bloom, grown from seed, limited! Discover the unparalleled charm of the Cattleya trianae var. coerulea, and create a stunning display of lavender-blue petals in your orchid collection.
